The locals.
One of the nice things about visiting the U.P. after labor day is that many of the tourist traps have already closed for the season. As a result, we got a little taste of what life is like for the yoopers year-round. This photo is of a local bar in Paradise, Michigan.

Petoskey, Mackinac, Grand Marais
Our U.P. adventure started in Petoskey, up to Mackinac Island, and Grand Marais. The pier in Grand Marias is so desolate, alone on Lake Superior. I was glad Chris wore red that day :)
Carvings on the pier and the unbelievably clear water of Lake Superior.
Chris and I accompanied by a little dog walking the pier in Petoskey.

Bike rental shop on Mackinac Island.
We rode our bikes around the island twice, a total of 20 miles!

New Beginnings...
So today is the last day of summer. I love the fall, but it's sad to see the little bit of warm weather we had in Michigan fizzle out. I took this photograph on our U.P. trip a week ago, and I'm beginning to tone through the many pictures I took of God's beauty in our state. Welcome football games, crunchy leaves and tart apples...

Danny King
Danny King, 66, of Casnovia is visited by his niece, Patty Wolgamott of Conklin Tuesday in his home where the community has come together with Spectrum Health hospice to provide King with 24-hour care. For years King has mowed lawns, fetched lunches, and brought groceries to widows. When he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April, the community decided it was time to give back to King.
